Historical Background
The origins of LEZZENO back to eta ancient , from a fragment of a tombstone with the inscription I-II century . A.D. walled up in the bell tower of the parish church , we know that already in Roman times , there were settlements on the hillside, where they practiced agriculture, and along the lake where they carried out activities related to water transport . Lezzeno politically in the Middle Ages it belonged to the so-called " Pieve d'Island " ( Comacina ) . In the Middle Ages also in the struggles between the Comacina Island and Como, took on particular importance Cavagnola castle , now destroyed , which allowed the islanders strategic control of much of the lake. - VILLA CITTERIO (XVIII -XIX centuries .), is surrounded by a beautiful public park overlooking the lake .
